DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister crashed while traveling back from East Azerbaijan, state media reported Thursday. The condition of President Raisi remains unclear following the crash.

According to the Deputy Coordinator of Civil Affairs of East Azerbaijan, the convoy consisted of three helicopters, two of which landed safely. The helicopter carrying President Raisi and the foreign minister crashed, while the other two helicopters landed without incident.

President Raisi, a hard-line protégé of the country's supreme leader, has overseen a crackdown on anti-government protests in recent months.
